W. Kurt Heite, DVM

Practicing Location: Cypress & Cave Creek

Professional Interests: Sports Medicine

Dr. W. Kurt Heite grew up in New Mexico working on a ranch. He attended undergraduate studies at New Mexico State University, pursuing an Animal Science degree. Following in his father’s footsteps, who also pursued a career in Veterinary Medicine, he attended Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in 1996, he spent 1 year practicing on the race track . He then moved to Tomball, Texas to pursue his Sports Medicine career.

He spent 12 years cultivating a practice on the first mobile Equine Sports Medicine clinic. The mobile clinic attended National level horse shows, servicing clientele in the AQHA, NRHA, USEF, USDF, and APHA associations. Concurrently with the mobile clinic, Dr. Heite established a successful practice in Tomball, TX.

In February 2017, he merged Equine Sports Medicine with Brazos Valley Equine Hospitals, creating Brazos Valley Equine Hospitals Tomball Sports Medicine outpatient clinic. He has been instrumental in the design and development of the new Brazos Valley Equine Sports Medicine mobile practice that is currently traveling to shows nationwide.

As a certified FEI veterinary delegate and treating veterinarian, his focus is on performance and success of the equine athlete.

Kurt is married to Nada Wise, a successful hunter/jumper trainer in the Cypress, Texas area. He is a father to two teenage daughters, Kassidy and Sam. He enjoys traveling and bird hunting.

Jon Johnson, DVM

Practicing Location: Cypress

Professional Interests: Sports Medicine

Dr. Jon Johnson grew up working on a cattle ranch with his father in Gordon, Texas, a very small-town west of Weatherford. He enjoyed playing a wide variety of sports growing up as a child, which he attributes to living in a small town.

He completed his undergraduate degree at Tarleton State University and graduated from Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 alongside Dr. Ben Buchanan. In his early associate years, he worked with Retama Equine Hospital and Dr. Billy Collier before establishing his own practice, On Track Equine. For many years, his passion to work within the racehorse industry made his private practice soar. In March 2022, he merged On Track Equine with BVEH and will be based at our Cypress facility together with Dr. Kurt Heite.

Jon is married to his wife, Theresa, and they have a young son named Henry. When Dr. Johnson isn’t working, he enjoys fishing and snow skiing.

Meghan Murphy, DVM

Practicing Location: Navasota & Cypress

Professional Interests: Sports Medicine, Performance Issues

Dr. Meghan Murphy is originally from rural Michigan, where her love and passion for the horse were cultivated at an early age. She has an extensive background showing quarter horses in all-around events and continues to participate in shows today.

She attended Baylor University in Waco, TX, where she competed on the Women’s Equestrian Team and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Dr. Murphy earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in East Lansing, MI, in 2020. She sought to further advance her training and completed an internship with Equine Athlete Veterinary Services in Pilot Point, TX, gaining experience in sports medicine, emergency, surgery, and primary medicine. After completion of her internship, she moved to the company’s West Coast location to further advance her focus in sports medicine.

She was offered and accepted a position with Brazos Valley Equine Hospitals at the Navasota and Cypress locations. As a versatile equine veterinarian, Dr. Murphy enjoys all aspects of equine practice. However, her primary interest lies in optimizing the performance and success of the equine athlete.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Murphy finds joy in riding and showing her quarter horses. Her passion for equestrianism goes hand in hand with her love for exploring new places through travel and cherishing quality time with her family.
