Dr. Rolf Becker Modesto was born in Stockholm, Sweden but grew up in the beautiful island of Florianopolis, in Brazil. In 2004 he earned his veterinary medical degree from Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Parana in Curitiba-Brazil, followed by a 2-year Surgery Residency in Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP- Botucatu).
In 2006, Rolf traveled to the United States for an internship with Brazos Valley Equine Hospitals and had always dreamed about going to work there. Rolf has completed internships at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington Kentucky, University of Minnesota and a two year Fellowship in Translational Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center. In 2014, he completed his surgical residency at the University of Minnesota and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-LA).
Rolf speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish and in his spare time likes to work on his Brazilian Jui-Jitsu skills, ride his motorcycle and taking care of his collection of Bonsai trees.
Rolf’s interests include equine surgery and lameness. He is a strong proponent of the career longevity and pays close attention to the conditioning and external factors that play a role in a horses performance.
Rolf comes from a family of physicians, grandfather (radiologist), father (neuroradiologist), and sisters (dermatologists and endodontic dentist).
