Brazos Valley Equine Hospital offers a competitive, challenging and exceptional intern/extern program unlike any other.

Because of the unique specialties of the staff, innovative procedures executed and multiple locations with a variety of client types, students have the opportunity to be exposed to more than a traditional program. 

  • Our hospitals feature a progressive approach to practice and utilize the latest equipment.

We offer a full-service referral practice to local veterinarians while also providing primary care to our local and show horse clients. 

  • We strongly believe in mentoring, and as such, you will work with a veterinarian on all cases.

As one of the largest practices in the state of Texas, we have multiple board-certified specialists in the practice to manage cases and to help to mentor our interns.

Experiential learning from a highly specialized, elite team includes a focus on: 

  • Further enhancing diagnostic skills.
  • Increasing hands-on knowledge base in areas including reproduction, sports medicine, internal medicine, imaging, and alternative medicine.
  • Sharpening client relationship, management, and communication skills.
  • Exposure to staff and procedures not found anywhere else.

The Externship Program

The goals of the externship are to provide a high level of exposure to broaden the interests and skills of veterinary students.

The extern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, friendly environment. This program will provide the extern with enough clinical exposure to pursue further studies in areas of interest in equine medicine.

Requirements

Externship applicants must be a veterinary student or graduate veterinarian with general interest and experience in equine medicine and surgery, as well as have:

  • A basic knowledge of horsemanship.
  • The ability to work as a team.
  • A positive attitude.
  • Great people skills.

We welcome and encourage foreign students/veterinarians to apply who are: 

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Able to obtain appropriate Visas.

  • Previous externship at desired BVEH location
