Internship
The internship at the Brazos Valley Equine
Hospital is organized through the AAEP Avenues
program (Navasota,
Stephenville,
Salado) and is a one year
rotating equine internship designed to provide a
level of post-graduate training to prepare an
intern for a residency program or private
practice. The intern will have the opportunity
to sharpen their diagnostic and decision-making
skills in sports medicine, reproduction,
surgery, internal medicine and intensive care.
While gaining hands-on experience in routine
procedures and advanced diagnostics, the intern
will develop confidence in interacting with
clients. Working in a fast-paced, friendly
environment with the large caseload at our
hospital can be very rewarding and educational.
As a first job after veterinary school, this
program should provide the intern with enough
clinical exposure to allow a solid foundation to
start in a clinical practice or engage in a
residency program
We strongly believe in
mentoring. The amount of supervision will depend
on the intern's experience and licensing status
and may vary as the year progresses. The intern
is expected to develop skills to allow handling
of in-house appointments and emergency cases,
however the intern will always be under direct
or indirect supervision as there is a staff
veterinarian within 30 minutes of hospital at
all times. For specific questions, please
contact the appropriate hospital via the links
above. For general questions, please contact
Christi McCoy at
